The Railways of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ŽFBiH) and HŽ Passenger Transport have reached an agreement to introduce a new international railway line Sarajevo–Ploče–Sarajevo, as an extension of the existing fast passenger train line currently operating on the Sarajevo–Čapljina–Sarajevo route. The new line will operate on weekends – Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
The first international train is scheduled to depart from Ploče on November 9, 2025, at 15:40.
After that, the train will run every weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) until June 25, 2026, and starting from June 26, 2026, it will operate as a seasonal passenger train Sarajevo–Ploče–Sarajevo according to the timetable until August 31, 2026.
Weekend timetable (from November 14, 2025, to June 25, 2026):
– Friday: International passenger train Sarajevo–Ploče departs from Sarajevo at 16:46, arriving in Ploče at 20:14.
– Saturday: International passenger train Ploče–Sarajevo departs from Ploče at 05:05, arriving in Sarajevo at 08:35.
– Sunday: International passenger train Sarajevo–Ploče departs from Sarajevo at 07:15, arriving in Ploče at 10:36;
– Sunday: International passenger train Ploče–Sarajevo departs from Ploče at 15:40, arriving in Sarajevo at 19:07.
By extending the existing Sarajevo–Čapljina line to Ploče station, passengers will enjoy simpler, more affordable, and more comfortable travel to the Adriatic coast on weekends, further strengthening transport connections between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia.
Tickets to Ploče can be purchased by passengers at sales points in Sarajevo, Hadžići, Konjic, Mostar, and Čapljina. Tickets to Ploče cannot be purchased online. Tickets must be bought at the latest by 12:00 PM on the day before the planned journey, and the following information must be provided at the ticket office: full name, year of birth, and passport number. This procedure is mandatory to ensure more efficient customs control and shorter waiting times when crossing the state border between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia.
If a passenger begins their journey in Ploče, the ticket can be purchased on the day of travel from the conductor on the train.
Passengers from Ploče pay for tickets in convertible marks (BAM) or in euros (EUR).
